We Do Income Taxes. 

We prepare the 1040 series of returns for individuals and some 1120 and 1065 tax returns for smaller s-corporations and partnerships. 
We prepare income tax returns for employees, the self employed, investors, retirees, farmers and landlords.

We Do Payroll

We also provide payroll services.  We’re licensed by the State of Maine and have our processes periodically examined by the state, for your protection and peace of mind.  We will prepare your employee checks or direct deposits, and also schedule all payroll tax deposits and payments.  If you want to write your own payroll checks we can assist with that as well.  All employee payroll as well as payroll taxes will be taken directly from your business bank accounts and paid directly to the payees.  No money is impounded by us or is routed through bank accounts owned by us.  You get your employee’s hours to us by phone, email or fax and we’ll do the rest.  We will mail, email, fax or personally deliver your payroll checks and reports to you prior to each payday.  We also will prepare all payroll tax returns, year-end W-2s, and can help with 1099-MISC preparation as well.  All W-2 and 1099 Forms are filed electronically.  Our goal is to make payroll easier for you.

We file all eligible returns electronically, reducing the possibilty of errors generated at the IRS or State Department of Revenue that can occur as paper returns are processed into their systems.  With our e-filed return you should receive your federal refund direct deposited into your bank account within approximately 7 to 13 days of filing.  Add about five days for a paper refund check sent by U.S. mail.

OUR STORY.
     Bruce Barker Sr. (Dad) graduated with a BS degree majoring in accounting from the University of Maine in 1962 and the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking in 1976. He was employed by the State of Maine as a bank examiner (think of Mr. Carter played by Charles Halton in It’s a Wonderful Life) for 14 years, and has been the office manager for two General Motors dealerships, A&S Motors and Clay GMC. During this time, he also prepared tax returns part time as what today would be called a side-gig. Initially he worked for Reggie Clay, who I believe had an office supply store where Pat Locke’s office is located today. Bruce Sr. spent many late hours working with clients at his kitchen table in his Lee Street home back then! At one time a small office was located upstairs in the home, and then moved to the foyer by the front porch. In 1989 Bruce and Emmy took the tax business full time, remodeling the basement into an office with its own entrance. It was part of the Triple Check Tax and Business Services franchise. In 1998 Bruce Sr. passed the Enrolled Agent exam, becoming enrolled to practice before the IRS for tax payers needing representation (tax court, offers-in-compromise, etc.). The business steadily grew, providing tax and payroll services to the area. A few years before I left the Air Force, Dad asked me if I had an interest in the business, as he was at the point of needing to take on a partner, or hold the growth until I could join him.
     In the fall of 2001 I (Bruce Barker Jr.) joined the business, following a 20 year US Air Force career. At that time the business went fully independent (no franchise) as Barker Business Services. Prior to my retiring, I prepared tax returns for military members and retirees at both KI Sawyer AFB, MI and Dyess AFB, TX as an IRS VITA volunteer. I have graduated from the Community College of the Air Force with an associate’s degree, passed the IRS Registered Tax Return Preparer (RTRP) exam in 2012, and annually complete all training to be recognized by the IRS as participating in the IRS Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP).
     In 2005 Denyse joined us and started processing payroll. Today she is here beside me as she handles the phone, manages appointments, takes care of our payroll clients, and prepares sales tax returns.
     In 2015 Mom & Dad sold their home of nearly 50 years to downsize. On December 7th, 2015 we moved to the Lincoln Financial Center, second floor (instead of the basement, hey, we had windows and could see the sky!) over Modern Woodmen of America, at 211 Enfield Road, still in Lincoln.
     In December of 2023 Dad retired. He and Mom are doing well and enjoying their leisure time.
     On October 15, 2024 Denyse and I opened the business in our newly renovated office space at our home in Mattamiscontis. This location is about 3 miles from the Lincoln Walmart, easily accessible, and has NO stairs to climb!
