During the outbreak of the Civil War, Burlington, Lowell, Enfield, and Lincoln, which used to be part of Lowell and Burlington, sent a lot of sons and fathers off to the war to preserve the Union.  These towns sent  many men and boys leaving the wives and mothers on their own to fend for themselves and make a living. Many of them to never return home. This was a very historic time for these towns, while in the midst to  a establish a town.

Being a former member of the Stuart M Lord Historical Society, growing up in Lowell, having founding relatives of Lowell and Burlington ,and being the nephew of Betty Treadwell, and friend of Mr Allan Hawkins, founders of the Stuart M Lord Historical Society, and still have charter members still involved. I would like to submit a proposal to erect a monument for the soldiers that these towns sent off to the war.  I think a statute located by the main building would be quite efficient to honor the founding fathers and there sacrifice.

I have attached a list of all Lowell and Burlington men sent off to the war and am working on the list for Enfield and Lincoln, including their final resting place.

I am sure that people that visit the museum from these towns and abroad, many founding fathers coming from Waldo, Cumberland, Aroostook Counties, and more would be honored, and may learn something about their forefathers.

I believe this could to be a reality if you looked into Veteran Affairs for funding and  put on some fund raising as to your great” bean hole bean suppers, fourth of July celebrations, breakfasts, as I fondly remember as a child.

If you could please consider, I would be greatly appreciative it being a founding relative of the towns , former member, and historical Civil War home town enthusiast.

Thank you for your consideration, I look forward to your comments,

Sincerely,
Paul H Dolley
